As one friend told me the other night by the pool, “during the summer, my food intake decreases as my liquid intake increases.” Yup. That’s the summer. Cold lemonades and iced sweet teas will be drunk by the gallon in our household. Until it’s adult time. Chilled wines and beers are standard in most homes. Margaritas when feeling kind of fancy. But if you’ve been up on your pinterest-habit lately, you’ll have notice the new trend of flavored vodkas. Dessert vodkas…

Yes, the ABC’s are carrying them now. If you aren’t from North Carolina, the ABC store is where you purchase your alcohol other than wine and beer. I guess you could say that knowing your ABC’s is vital to the adult population here in NC. Don’t know where your ABC store is here in Cary? Click here.

Here’s what I picked up last week:

That’s right. UV Cake Vodka and Smirnoff Whipped Cream Vodka.

They are both ridiculously sweet. Yes, the UV Cake tastes like cake. Like you blended a yellow cake, strained it, and drank it. Weird, but delicious. The Smirnoff Whipped tastes a little like actual whipped cream. It’s not as sweet as the Cake, but still up there. They also don’t have much alcohol in them (both at 30%). I’m sure this why they are geared towards women and pinned exponentially.

They are fun to drink, either as shots or mixed drinks and don’t require any hot ovens. Here are some of my favorite drinks so far:

These drinks are definitely sweet and not for your hard-liquor gin&tonic crowd. However, the flavored vodkas can be mixed with  anything so getting creative is easy. Hope you enjoy!
